Adam Miller Tool son of Adam Archibald and Barbara Fudge Tool (see other entries)was married to Susanna Hamilton Stinson (see other entry) in 1817 in Washignton County, VA. From this union five daughters and two sons were born. Eliza Jane Tool Frost (1818-1841); Mary Stinson Tool Fleenor McCleery (1821-1895; Susan Adaline Tool Hill DeLong (1822-1904); James Alexander Tool (1825-1910); Maria Elizabeth Tool Mitchell (1827-1909); Martha Casandra Tool Moore (1830-1857); John McColloch Tool (1832-1911). All were born in Washington County, VA. He was drafted into the 70th Batallion Regement in 1811, serving six months. In 1814 he enlisted as a private in 7th Regiment (Saunder\'s) Virginia Militia and was discharged in 1815. In 1835 he moved his family to Coles County, IL and purchased a farm near Charleston, Coles County, IL. There his oldest daughter Eliza Jane Tool married and died. Because of her death he became unhappy with the climate there and decided to move the family into the new land being opened up according to the treaty of 1842. He led the first settlers into what is now Jasper County, IA, in May 1843. This settlement became known as Tool\'s Point. When the road throgh his land became the principal highway to Fort Des Moines, he didn\'t have the heart to turn away travelers who asked him for shelter. Travelers named his home Tool\'s Tavern even though he did not allow liquor of any type in his home. It became a popular resting place for teamsters and stage coach drivers. The county\'s first church services were held in his home. In 1849 he was appointed the first Postmaster. He laid out the town of Tool\'s Point in 1851. Adam and Susanna are buried in the Seay (Pioneer) Cemetery now located within the town of Monroe, IA.
